From the recording TWENTY FROM TEN
Lyrics
IGNORANCE IS BLISS
All that crust upon your eyes
Makes it convenient not to see.
It’s a thinly-veiled disguise
For your deep-seated apathy.
The blind keep leading the blind
Into who-knows-what whenever,
But you don’t seem to mind -
Been a follower forever.
Ignorance is bliss;
The whole point is this:
You don’t have a clue
What’s good or bad.
Ignorance is bliss;
There’s no way to miss
What you never knew
You never had.
All those sounds stay trapped outside
When your whole world’s a vacuum.
Yet you seem so satisfied
Living in your airtight tomb.
You keep on sleepwalking
Your way through every day.
Don’t hear those shadows talking;
You’re deaf to what they say.
Ignorance is bliss;
The whole point is this:
You don’t have a clue
What’s good or bad.
Ignorance is bliss;
There’s no way to miss
What you never knew
You never had.
All those cobwebs on your tongue
Must mean you never speak your mind.
You went mute when you were young;
Left your voice box locked behind.
You can’t find words to express
The sorrow in your soul.
Today, you can only guess;
Maybe tomorrow you’ll know.
There’s a great big world out there
Beyond your whitewashed fences.
Open that gate and investigate;
It’s time you came to your senses.
Ignorance is bliss;
The whole point is this:
You don’t have a clue
What’s good or bad.
Ignorance is bliss;
There’s no way to miss
What you never knew
You never had.
