From the recording WRITTEN IN STONE
Lyrics
THERE ARE SOUNDS
There are sounds from the past
Trapped within these walls --
Whispers and shouts that outlast
Centuries of curtain calls.
Lovers' whispers intertwine
With brave warriors' shouts.
Shakespeare's best unwritten lines
All linger hereabouts.
A newborn baby's first cries
Caress someone's last moan.
Dylan's first lyric lies
Deep in his Hibbing home.
There are sounds from the past
Trapped inside these walls --
Vibrations that outlast
Empires' rises and falls.
If we could lift the layers
Of man's first spoken words,
All of those early sayers
Could still be plainly heard.
Parables of Jesus
Mingle with Roman shouts.
The good word that frees us
Lies buried hereabouts.
There are sounds from the past
Trapped within these walls --
Sonic visions amassed
As civilization sprawls.
