SAY SOMETHING IN POETRY

I stood alone, unsure,
On an uncertain shore,
Searching for the cure,
Sweet redemption, and more.
The dull gray sky
Held not a ray of hope,
And just as I
Was turning to go,
This sweet young thing
Appeared out of nowhere.
A young maiden fair
Appeared from thin air.

“Say something in poetry,”
This pretty girl said to me.
“Make it something to stop time
With its paralyzing rhyme.”

Oh, speak again, bright angel,
I need more of your sweet voice.
Pray, what secrets can you tell
To help me make my choice?

Should I seek glory,
Riches, and acclaim -
Or will history
Soon forget my name?

“Say something in poetry,”
This pretty girl said to me.
“Make it something to stop time
With its paralyzing rhyme.”

“Peel the verses to the core;
I want to watch the words soar,
Breathe in rhythm with the beat,
Feel every syllable’s heat.”

Then she vanished
As fast as she appeared.
And as I’d wished
Those dark clouds all disappeared.
The silent decades
Began to fade
Into vague yesterdays.
I knew that I would write
A special song that night
Thanks to that girl in white.

“Say something in poetry,”
That pretty girl said to me.
“Make it something to stop time
With its paralyzing rhyme.”

“Peel the verses to the core;
I want to watch the words soar,
Breathe in rhythm with the beat,
Feel every syllable’s heat.”

“Say something in poetry,”
That pretty girl said to me.
“Make it something to stop time
With its paralyzing rhyme.”

“Peel the verses to the core;
I want to watch the words soar,
Breathe in rhythm with the beat,
Feel every syllable’s heat.”
