Lyrics

ONE NIGHT WITNESS STAND

You rented out your honesty
For a one-time discount fee.
Now you’re stooping to trickery,
Trying to get it back from me.
Now you can’t blame anybody;
You rented out your honesty.

Do you swear to tell
Nothing but the truth?
Tell us where you fell
And lost your gold tooth.
Was it on your way
To calamity –
Or should we just say
On your way to me?

What matters most in life to you?
Which things do you cling to as true?
Are there things you would never do?
Is your conscience used or brand new?
Come on, tell us a thing or two;
What matters most in life to you?

Do you swear to tell
Nothing but the truth?
Tell us where you fell
And lost your gold tooth.
Was it on your way
To calamity –
Or should we just say
On your way to me?

This should never have come to trial;
Your guilt was in your denial.
No innocent man could still smile
After relating news so vile.
You should have traveled your last mile.
This should never have come to trial.

Do you swear to tell
Nothing but the truth?
Tell us where you fell
And lost your gold tooth.
Was it on your way
To calamity –
Or should we just say
On your way to me?

The time has come to say, “Good night!”
You shall not see the morning light.
The time has come to make things right.
You can argue with all your might;
You can’t turn blackness into white.
The time has come to say, “Good night!”
The time has come to say, “Good night!”
