From the recording SAY SOMETHING IN POETRY
Lyrics
STAGE FRIGHT
The smirking mask of the comic muse
Wisely winks as she stoops to choose
A thespian neophyte for today’s tragedy,
An understudy for tomorrow’s comedy.
The curtain rises in medias res
Upon a singularly solemn face
Whose eyes reflect today’s certain sorrow,
And speak of untold ecstasy tomorrow.
Outside, unknown to all who live within,
The rain falls softly on a sign of tin,
Whose letters sound the fate of the world:
“Tomorrow’s performance is cancelled.”
“Tomorrow’s performance is cancelled.”
