M&Ms® AND MEMORIES

Searching through the rubbish
For some scrap of self respect,
The gray-haired man's last wish
Wasn't what you might expect:

"Lord, grant me peace of mind;
Free me from these memories.
Why was I left behind
To replay these sad movies?"

There was no booming voice,
No thundering from on high,
No lightning clean clear choice -
Just the dark clouds passing by.

His daughter died in a crash,
Son-in-law and grandson too.
Took them all in a flash -
What else could this poor man do?

So, he prayed ...

"Lord, grant me peace of mind;
Free me from what haunts me.
Please don't leave me behind
Where no one needs or wants me.
My brain's turning to hard candy -
M&Ms® and memories."

Just then a little boy
Tapped his shoulder and said,
"Want some of my Almond Joy®
Or some of these instead?"

He sprinkled some hard candy
Into the old man's hand;
Said, "There you go!" and he
Smiled, then turned away and ran.

The old man said ...

"He looks like my grandson,
Yeah, he liked the blue ones too.
Used to share some and run -
Yeah, that's what he used to do."

Then he prayed ...

"Thank you, Lord, for being kind
And bringing me to my knees,
And for the comfort I now find
In these M&Ms® and memories.

Thank you, Lord, for this peace of mind
And for these hard candies,
And for the comfort I now find
In these M&Ms® and memories."
