Lyrics

THE SEVEN SAGES

This whole world is wrapped up in wickedness;
Topped off with the black bow of the unblessed;
Packed with the homeless, hopeless, and oppressed.
Even the rich are under house arrest.

Somehow, we’ve gone from hallowed sanctity
So far down to shallow morality.
We’ve said our goodbyes to civility
And turned our backs on humility.

Some say it is what it is,
Or it isn’t what it isn’t –
Like a trivia pop quiz
On the jargon of prison.

Some say that it is all good;
Others say there is no there there.
Precious few know that they could
Save themselves with just a prayer.

Listen closely to the seven sages
As they whisper wisdom for the ages.
They rock our world and rattle our cages
As we turn those yellowed parchment pages.

Truth is on their lips; fire is in their eyes,
And when they speak, all uncertainty dies.
There’s no room in their hearts for petty lies.
Darkness breeds deceit; they bring the sunrise.

Some say it is what it is,
Or it isn’t what it isn’t –
Like a trivia pop quiz
On the jargon of prison.

Some say that it is all good;
Others say there is no there there.
Precious few know that they could
Save themselves with just a prayer.

Pay attention to the holy seven.
Need I mention they’re sent down from Heaven?
