Lyrics

HURTIN’ BOYS AND GIRLS

We always like to dress them up
And parade them all about,
Like precious newborn babies.
No matter how we dress them up,
Our todays are always in doubt;
Our tomorrows are mere maybes.

We’re just hurtin’ boys and girls
In a most uncertain world,
Drifting in and out of the light,
With no one to pity our plight.
We know we must stand and fight,
Yet we watch wrong overcome right.
In this most uncertain world,
We’re all hurtin’ boys and girls.

We’ll sleep tonight, perchance to dream,
Perhaps to never awaken –
Like all too many souls today.
Even if you survive the dream,
You’ll still find someone has taken
A chunk of your future away.

We’re just hurtin’ boys and girls
In a most uncertain world,
Drifting in and out of the light,
With no one to pity our plight.
We know we must stand and fight,
Yet we watch wrong overcome right.
In this most uncertain world,
We’re all hurtin’ boys and girls.

We look back at the good old days,
Believing they were better times.
But sorrow’s been with us always
In shifting shapes and paradigms.
Tomorrow repeats yesterday’s crimes.
